The first pre-production samples of the 8 channel IQS222 has been released. The device is highly configurable through a I2CTM compatible interface to a host controller.
Typical applications include 8 discrete key user interfaces, or a combination of a wheel/slider type interface combined with discrete buttons. 3 channels are required for the wheel/slider that features resolution of up to 11 bits.
As with most ProxSenseTM devices, every channel also features a proximity threshold that can be used to enhance the user experience by launching pre-emptive functions like backlight illumination, wake-up from sleep or launching hidden menus on a screen as the user approaches.
Mass production devices are shipping in July 2010.
