The founder, and current Chief Executive Officer, Dr. FJ Bruwer, formed the company in August 1996. Azoteq was spun out of Nanoteq (Pty) Ltd, a South African company that was formed in 1988 by former academic staff from the Department of Electronic Engineering at the University of Pretoria under the leadership of then Prof. FJ Bruwer.
